INTERSPORT increases retail sales by 13.4% to a new record: EUR 13.7 billion

Bern (Switzerland), January 27, 2023The global sporting goods retailer INTERSPORT reports retail sales with an accelerated growth in local currencies of 12.1% in 2022. With this record result the figures of 2021 were exceeded by 13.4%. in Euro, retail sales increased to 13.7 billion despite the challenging markets circumstances. By the end of 2022, INTERSPORT had 5’300 stores worldwide and was represented in 42 countries.

Experiencing a slow but still positive start into the year, the Group saw accelerated sales
growth in spring and fall. In the last quarter, sales stagnated due to the difficult economic
environment. Never in the history of INTERSPORT Group a better turnover result could be achieved, confirming the Group’s strong position in the sporting goods retail sector, recognized for its expertise and advice, and appreciated for its hyperlocal shop network. The three biggest contributors to the total sales increase were Germany, France and Austria.

As in the whole industry, also the INTERSPORT Group’s online business faced a slight decline after Covid and customers massively returned to physical stores.

Positive outlook
IIC’s CEO, Steve Evers, is cautiously optimistic for INTERSPORT’s future development: “We might see some top line pressure in the beginning of 2023 due to the weather conditions in Europe. The current difficult economic situation has somewhat dampened our growth expectations. However, we are optimistic that with our strong customer focus combined with a great omnichannel offer connected to more than 5’300 stores, the INTERSPORT Group can continue to leverage its hyperlocal presence and its service and advice-based expertise with its customers also in 2023.”
